Dog Training Is Fun!
A socialized dog has a better chance of being a behaved dog.
Dog training should be fun and interactive! Make play as you train! Your dog will love you for it!
For best results, train frequently, briefly, and consistently.
To get the best out of your dog training, you should both be fresh and happy during workouts.
Who wants to play/work with a tired or demanding bore?
You should expose your pet to different environments slowly, gently, briefly at first, and always with supervision. Don't just train at home. The distraction will help you work on socialization, and on getting your dogs attention on YOU when you call him. This will help you to work on gaining more confidence with your dog in public.
When training, praise your dog for his effort, but don't treat or reinforce him for lack of it.
Never stare down an unknown dog. This can be construed as aggressiveness and could initiate a challenge.
Dog obedience is not just for home/practical purposes, it is also a fun competition sport!
In addition to dog breed clubs there are many dog sport clubs that offer individuals an opportunity to meet new friends, gain camaraderie and further knowledge in the sport of interest. Both pure and mixed-bred dogs are welcome at many sporting matches or events! There is a dog club near you!
Owning a dog is a privilege of companionship that should never be abused.
